WHO WE ARE

Introduction
Background

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF works in the world’s toughest places to reach the most disadvantaged children and adolescents – and to protect the rights of every child, everywhere. Across more than 190 countries and territories, we do whatever it takes to help children survive, thrive and fulfill their potential, from early childhood through adolescence.

The world’s largest provider of vaccines, we support child health and nutrition, safe water and sanitation, quality education and skill building, HIV prevention and treatment for mothers and babies, and the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation.

Thailand Institue of Justice (TIJ)

The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) is a research institute affiliated with the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network or UN-PNI.

The vision of the TIJ is to be a promoter of change to enhance justice system and foster a culture of lawfulness in Thailand and the wider international communities through research, capacity-building and policy advocacy activities in crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law. Building on Thailand’s engagement in the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the UN Crime Congresses, TIJ serves as a bridge that transports global ideas to local practices, focusing on cross-cutting issues including the interconnection between the rule of law and sustainable development, peace and security.

The World Justice Project (WJP)

WJP is an independent multi-disciplinary organisation working to create knowledge, build awareness, and stimulate action to advance the rule of law worldwide. WJP builds and supports a global movement for the rule of law through three pillars of work: collecting and analyzing original, independent rule of law data, including the WJP Rule of Law Index; supporting research, scholarship, and teaching about the importance of rule of law, its relationship to development, and effecve strategies to strengthen it; and building an engaged global network of policy-makers and stakeholders through strategic convenings, knowledge exchanges, coordinated campaigns, and locally-led initiatives to advance the rule of law.

WJP is the convener of the World Justice Forum, bringing together stakeholders from various sectors and interests to share insights, develop strategies, and pursue solutions to strengthen the rule of law.

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

UNDP is the United Nations global development network, present in over 170 countries and territories.  UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific (RBAP), with 24 Country Offices covering work in 36 countries and decades of experience in the region, is a trusted adviser and a ‘development partner’ of choice for governments across the region in supporting the localization and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We help our partners in identifying relevant solutions to today’s complex, trans-boundary development challenges. We support them to design and implement large scale development initiatives that deliver lasting social, economic and environmental improvements in countries across the region.

UN Women

Through its regional office in Bangkok and a number of country and multi-country offices, UN Women builds on a long history of support to governments and women’s movements. We advocate for aligning legal frameworks and election processes with the goal of women’s increased participation in political and other forms of decision-making. We assist legislative reform measures to stop violence against women and girls, including in markets and cities, and help extend services to survivors and ensure the implementation of effective existing laws.

Our economic empowerment programmes seek greater security for marginalized groups of women, encompassing home-based workers, migrants, rural women, informal market vendors, and women vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters. A regional initiative for migrant workers stresses access to justice, the management of migration to respond to differences between men and women, and the application of international standards protecting women migrants regardless of what type of job they do.

International Development Law Organization (IDLO)

IDLO is the only global intergovernmental organization exclusively devoted to promoting the rule of law to advance peace and sustainable development. We have experience working in more than 90 countries around the world with various legal systems. Our network includes thousands of trusted experts, alumni and partners. Established as an intergovernmental organization in 1988, IDLO has had United Nations Observer Status since 2001.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

UNEP is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda; promotes the coherent implementation of environmental dimensions of sustainable development within the UN system; and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP's mandate in the field of environmental law is to lead the United Nations System in the development and implementation of environmental rule of law with attention at all levels, including access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) supports the upholding of the right to a healthy environment through The Environmental Rights Initiative which is a coalition of state and non-state actors united to promote, protect and respect environmental rights.

Pathfinders

The Pathfinders is a cross-regional impact hub of 46 member states, as well as partners across international organizations, civil society, and the private sector committed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goal targets for peace, justice, inclusion, and equality (SDG16+).
